Erlernen sie das klassische Palladium Druckverfahren mit modernen Methoden für die Erstellung digitaler Negative in diesem 4-tägigen Intensivworkshop mit Master Printer Kerik Kouklis.
Dieser Workshop ist für Anfänger genauso geeignet wie für fortgeschrittene Studenten. Der ersten Workshop-Tag beginnt mit den Techniken und Feinheiten der Erstellung erstklassiger Palladium-Prints. Wir diskutieren die Papierauswahl, die Kontraststeuerung, archivfeste Prozesse, Steuerung aller Parameter und den besten Workflow für konstante Ergebnisse.
Der 2. Tag ist der Erstellung von digitalen Negative mit dem QuickCurveDN System von Richard Boutwell und Epson Drucker in höchster Qualität gewidment. Kerik Kouklis meint dazu, “Dieses System und Software ist die mit Abstand beste und einfachste Methode zur Erstellung digitaler Negative. Das hat meines und das Leben meiner Studenten um ein vielfaches vereinfacht.”
Der 3. Tag ist dem Erlernen des Gum Bichromate Prozesses gewidmet und wie man mit Palladium eine Steigerung der Tonalität und der Tiefe der Prints erzielt. Diese Technik war bei den Piktorialisten Edward Steichen, Alfred Stieglitz und Alvin Langdon Coburn, um nur einige zu nennen, beliebt.
Am 4. Tag lernen sie die Grundsätze des neuen Cyanotypie Prozesses kennen und wie man das mit Palladium kombiniert, um die Prints in einen wunderschönen Blauton zu bringen. Wir werden uns auch mit der Retousche von Prints beschäftigen, der Beschaffung des Materials und jede Frage die dann noch offen sein könnte.
Sie werden den Workshop mit einem Stapel von Prints und den erlernten Fähigkeiten, um die eigenen Prints auf einen ganz neuen Level zu bringen, verlassen.
Dieser Workshop ist auf 6 Personen beschränkt. Es ist keine Erfahrung in der Dunkelkammer notwendig. Die verwendete Software läuft nur auf Apple Computer. Erste Erfahrung mit Photoshop ist hilfreich aber nicht notwendig. Unterrichtssprache ist Englisch, aber der Fotograf und Galerist Viktor Orgonyi wird für eventuell notwendige Übersetzungen die gesamte Zeit anwesend sein. Ausserdem ist das ein praktischer Hands-On Workshop wo das tatsächliche Erstellen der Prints im Vordergrund steht.

Kerik Kouklis ist ein echter Meister des Prozesses und unterrichtet Einzel- und Gruppenworkshops seit 1997. Er hat eben das 25te Jahr des Unterrichtens an der Ansel Adams Gallery in Yosemite vollendet. Weiters ist er selbst ein ausgezeichneter Fotograf dessen Arbeiten von privaten Sammlern, öffentlichen Institutionen und Firmensammlungen gehalten werden. Learn the classic palladium printing process using modern methods to create digital negatives in this four-day intensive hands-on workshop with master printer Kerik Kouklis.
Designed for beginning and intermediate students, Day 1 of this workshop begins with the techniques and subtleties involved in making top-quality palladium prints, including paper choices, contrast controls, archival processing techniques, environmental controls and the best workflow for consistent results.
Day 2 is dedicated to learning how to make high quality digital negatives using the QuickCurveDN system by Richard Boutwell and Epson printers. According to Kerik, “This newest entry into the digital negative software field is by far the best and easiest to use and teach. It has made my life and my students’ lives much easier.”
Day 3 is dedicated to learning the fundamentals of the gum bichromate process and how to combine it with palladium to provide additional tones and depth to your prints. This technique was popular in with the Picorialists including Steichen, Stieglitz, Coburn, etc.
On Day 4 you will learn the fundamentals of the New Cyanotype process and how to combine it with palladium to move your work in a beautiful blue direction. We will also cover print retouching, sources for supplies and any final questions. You will leave the workshop with a pile of prints and the skills to take your work to the next level.
This fun and information-packed workshop is limited to 6 persons. No previous darkroom experience is required. The software used is Mac only. Some experience with Photoshop is helpful but not required. Workshop language is English.
